Story Toto

David Paich (Keyboards, vocal) et Jeff Porcaro (Drums), qui avaient déjà collaboré comme musiciens de studio sur plusieurs albums, forment le groupe à Los Angeles, en 1977.  David Hungate (bass), Steve Lukather (guitar, vocal), Steve Porcaro (Keyboards) et Bobby Kimball (vocal) sont recrutés pour l’enregistrement du 1er album en 1978. Porté par le single Hold the Line, le disque fait connaître le groupe au grand public, mais c'est le 4ème, Toto IV en 1982, avec le mega tube Africa, qui leur apporte une renommée internationale. Bien que le groupe n'ait pas retrouvé le succès de son apogée, il continue à produire des albums et à tourner de manière quasi continue jusqu'à aujourd'hui, avec plusieurs changements de personnel. Entre autres, Simon Phillips  remplace Jeff Porcaro décédé en 1992 à seulement 38 ans. Leur dernier opus, Old Is Newest est paru en 2018. Steve Lukather, seul membre permanent, a réalisé 9 albums en solo depuis 1989.

Je ne vais pas vous raconter d’histoires, le nom Toto  ferait  référence au chien qui figure dans "Le Magicien d'Oz". On ne rigole pas avec la musique !
